Our final ALEZ competition of 2013 is going to be a strong beer competition, with the requirement of having an original gravity of 1.075 or greated. The entries will be judged based on the BJCP categories: 5C/5D Doppelbock/Eisbock 9E Strong Scotch Ale 12C Baltic Porter 13D/E/F Foreign Extra/American/Russian Imperial Stout 14C Imperial IPA 15C Weizenbock 16D Biere de Garde 18A/B/C/D/E Belgian Blonde/Dubbel/Trippel/Golden Strong/Dark Strong 19A/B/C Old Ale/English Barleywine/American Barleywine 22B Other Smoked Beer 22C Wood Aged Beer To view the BJCP style guidelines for these categories go to: www.bjcp.org/docs/2008_Guidelines.pdfThere will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for this competition, with a prize for first place. Entries will need to be two 12 oz bottles for judging, and either two more 12 oz bottles or one 22 oz bottle for tasting at the holiday party. Winners will be announced at our annual holiday party, date TBA. We'll have all the entries available to taste then as well. There is no entry fee to this competition. Due to the fact that judging high gravity beers is more palate wrecking than regular strength beers only one entry per person will be allowed for this competition. Entries for this competition will be due at our April public meeting on Tuesday November 19. If you can't make the meeting you can drop your entries off at Blockader Homebrew Supply as well. I'll post an entry form you can print off to include with your bottles as the competition draws closer. Use this thread to discuss anything about the competition and brewing strong beers, and ask any questions you may have.
